One of the immediate needs of Downtown Pittsburgh residents was a quality grocery store. As Downtown’s population expands each year, finding the most basic staple foods within the Golden Triangle was challenging for many residents. To meet this primary residential need, the PDCDC facilitated the construction of a 4,600-square-foot grocery store with local developer Ralph A. Falbo, Inc., Vallozzi’s Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation (PHLF).
Market Street Grocery is located in the Thompson Building at 435 Market Street. Complete with a wine bar, coffee bar, prepared foods section, deli counter and seating, the urban grocer serves as both a necessary resource for residents and a meeting place where one can sit down and eat. Shoppers are able to purchase fresh meats from an on-site butcher and raw fish is also available. The grocery store benefits Downtown professionals, residents and visitors. The grocery store is projected to bring 30 jobs to the area.
